Vanessa Heckman, RN,MSN,CNP,CLNC, recently started the process to earn her certification as a Wound Care Specialist.
Ms. Heckman is one of the few nurses in the U.S. who have chosen to invest the time and extend their training to hold a wound care specialist certificate. For example, Wound Ostomy Continence Nursing Certification Board (WOCNCB) has only certified 5,600 dedicated nurses since 1978. However, the new industry trend is now leaning to certifying Physicians as well with the new certification of (CWS-P) - Certified Wound Specialist - Physician.
Ms. Heckman possesses an array of remarkable skills, which is coupled with the ability and commitment to excellence in healthcare. Adding the wound care specialty certification is part of her awareness of the big picture at hand, and acting upon her desire to be the best she can.
Her specialized services as a wound care specialist now include post-acute wound care, pressure ulcers, diabetic ulcers, venostasis ulcers, vascular ulcers, post-operative wounds, and other non-healing wounds.
To achieve the certification, Ms. Heckman attended 4 weeks of classroom training and is now working toward meeting the minimum 2-year requirement of providing care for patients.
The global wound care market is a growing $14 billion industry. AP reported recently that Johnson & Johnson's sales of consumer products were down 4.5 percent at $3.85 billion. Total sales of women's health, skin care and dental products were all up operationally, but down due to exchange rates. The only consumer category that didn't drop was wound care.
